Siroskin Cream typically contains Sirolimus (0.1% w/w) as its active pharmaceutical ingredient (note that it is commonly formulated as 0.1% rather than 1%). It belongs to a class of medications known as mTOR inhibitors.
Primary Uses
Facial Angiofibromas: Primarily prescribed to treat facial angiofibromas—small, benign, reddish or skin-colored vascular bumps that frequently develop on the face in individuals with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC).
Mechanism: It works locally by inhibiting the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, which helps suppress abnormal cell proliferation, blood vessel growth, and inflammation, thereby shrinking the lesions and improving skin appearance.
Application Guidelines
Usage: Apply a thin layer strictly to the clean, dry affected areas of the skin as directed by your dermatologist or physician.
Precautions: Avoid contact with the eyes, inside the nose, mouth, or open wounds. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application unless your hands are the treated area.
Potential Side Effects
Localized skin reactions at the application site are common, including mild burning, stinging, redness, dryness, itching, or acne-like breakouts.
Protect treated skin from excessive sunlight and use sunscreen as advised, as topical mTOR inhibitors can sometimes increase skin sensitivity.
Consult a dermatologist for a proper evaluation and diagnosis before starting this medication, and ensure you use it under direct medical supervision.
